OVAM has launched a new campaign to encourage people to overcome their "attic phobia" and give unused items a second life. The average Flemish person has a material footprint of 34.6 tonnes of materials per year, and while this has improved in recent years, there's still much work to be done. The Flemish government aims to reduce consumption by 30% by 2030 and 75% by 2050. The campaign urges citizens to revisit their attics and consider repurposing or donating forgotten items such as old electronics, clothing, and tools to second-hand shops or repair initiatives, contributing to a circular economy. The campaign highlights the importance of reuse and repair in reducing waste, as many valuable materials lie dormant in homes. OVAM is working with partners to provide resources and inspiration for people to give their old items a new life.
