Cooperation
Since its creation, ACR+ has actively collaborated with other networks and platforms to promote resource efficiency through joint initiatives and projects.
ACR+ collaborates with the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT) to strengthen efforts on the circular economy. This initiative involves:
- Coordination between KICs to support the EU Circular Economy Action Plan.
- Discussions to develop a joint circular economy offer and improve collaboration with the European Commission.
- Cooperation on technical reports, events, and project proposals, including potential collaboration for the European Week for Waste Reduction.
Since June 2021, ACR+ and the EIT Cross-KIC activity on circular economy agreed to cooperate on technical reports, events and project proposals, as well as investigate potential collaboration in the framework of the European Week for Waste Reduction.
ACR+ is a co-pilot of the Climate Chance coalition on circular economy, an international coalition of non-state actors on the circular economy. The coalition:
- Defines priorities for co-working and governance.
- Implements concrete actions to boost the circular economy.
- Has developed a roadmap that focuses on awareness-raising, best practices, capacity building, policy recommendations, and evaluation.
Since May 2020, ACR+ is part of this platform, working to:
- Collect 90% of all glass packaging in the EU by 2030.
- Promote bottle-to-bottle recycling through cooperation between businesses, municipalities, and EPR schemes.
ACR+ supports this European movement since February 2016. It unites local and regional authorities in tackling climate change by:
- Pledging to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 40% by 2030.
- Committing to an integrated approach to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
ACR+ is part of the Coordination Group of the ECESP, which was launched jointly by the European Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee during the Circular Economy Stakeholder Conference that took place in Brussels on 9-10 March 2017. It brings together diverse stakeholders to:
- Address cross-sector circular economy challenges.
- Implement activities that accelerate the transition.
Within the ECESP, ACR+ is coordinating the leadership group on cities and regions.
ACR+ is a silver member of ISWA, the only worldwide association promoting comprehensive and sustainable waste management.
MedCities is a network of Mediterranean cities created in Barcelona in November 1991 at the initiative of the Mediterranean Environmental Technical Assistance Programme (METAP). Being a network of Mediterranean towns and cities belonging to different countries, its purpose is urban sustainable development as a way to improve living conditions in the Mediterranean region.
ACR+ is a supporting partner of the European Circular Cities Declaration, a commitment to accelerating the transition towards a circular economy across Europe's urban areas. By endorsing this declaration, we join a growing community of local and regional governments dedicated to reducing resource consumption, cutting carbon emissions, and fostering sustainable urban development.
ACR+ is a member of the Waste Wise Cities Campaign advisory group, supporting UN-Habitat’s global campaign to tackle the growing waste management crisis. This initiative addresses the critical challenges cities face due to inadequate waste disposal, which leads to pollution, health risks, and resource loss. As a part of the advisory group, ACR+ contributes its expertise in sustainable waste management to guide cities in transforming waste into a valuable resource.
ACR+ has a strategic partnership with Energy Cities, a learning community of cities working on sustainability. This partnership provides:
- Access to more peer-to-peer exchanges, learning, and funding opportunities.
- Joint initiatives for future-proof cities.
