EMULSA | Gijón City Council introduces draft of the municipal waste plan for discussion

Gijón City Council, involving the Municipal Company for Urban Environment Services (EMULSA), presented the initial draft of the 2025–2027 Municipal Waste Plan during the second meeting of the Municipal Council for Waste Prevention and Management and the Promotion of a Circular Economy. This draft aims to foster public participation and ensure compliance with EU recycling targets. Despite some improvement, Gijón’s waste separation rate remains at 35.7%, far below the required 50%, highlighting the need for decisive strategies and citizen involvement. The Municipal Waste Plan seeks to address this challenge through a participatory approach, by promoting good environmental practices and offering incentives to encourage participation.
