Commissioned by Zero Waste Scotland, a new study explores the potential for regional materials reuse hubs in Scotland, aimed at promoting circular construction practices to reduce resource consumption and carbon emissions. Based on the 2022 Circularity Gap Report, strategies like renovation, retrofitting, and monitoring material flows were recommended to foster a more sustainable building stock. Prioritising local materials and supply chains was also highlighted as essential for achieving national resource efficiency goals.
The report combines literature review and stakeholder insights to assess the feasibility, barriers, and opportunities of establishing reuse hubs. It recommends ways to overcome challenges, boost awareness, and incentivise reuse, envisioning these hubs as a scalable solution to reduce construction waste and emissions.
