Zero waste Scotland | Exploring the societal impacts of the circular economy
Discover in Zero Waste Scotland's latest report how circular economy practices in Scotland’s cities and regions can promote equity, justice, community well-being, and cultural change. Research, including literature reviews and interviews with businesses across the Highlands and Islands, Dundee, Glasgow, and South of Scotland, highlights the importance of waste reduction, second-hand sales, and fostering innovation. These findings suggest that Circular Economy Practices (CEPs) enhance efficiency, profitability, and environmental responsibility, though perceptions vary across regions, underscoring the need for tailored strategies and collaboration. The study aimed to identify the societal benefits of CEPs in Scotland to inform policy and interventions. Interviews revealed both organisational advantages (cost savings, economic growth, and employee retention) and broader societal impacts, such as community empowerment, social cohesion, and job creation.
