Rijkswaterstaat | Wind turbine blades as secondary building material

01 October 2024 Members' News

Rijkswaterstaat and Blade-Made (a company that transforms waste into long-lasting objects) are testing a new type of noise barrier made from 60-meter-long and 3.5-meter-high wind turbine blades. These repurposed blades, no longer used in turbines, are being reused as secondary building materials. The project, called Living Lab InnovA58, is an initiative focused on construction, infrastructure, and sustainable living. The Blade Barrier will remain visible along the A58 motorway in the Netherlands until the end of 2026, undergoing tests for acoustic performance, CO2 impact and manufacturability.
