01 October 2024 Members' News

Belfast City Council has launched its first Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP), marking a significant milestone as the first plan of its kind in Northern Ireland. This initiative aims to translate net zero targets into actionable steps, facilitating the city’s transition to a resilient, low-carbon economy. The LAEP leverages Belfast's unique geographical features, such as its geothermal potential and solar energy capabilities, to propose a range of priority projects, including a district heat network and the retrofitting of buildings. Additionally, the council announced the formation of a Net Zero Belfast Delivery Group to oversee the implementation of the plan.
