During the 2024 edition of Energy Cities' annual forum, Grafting Cities, two days were dedicated to addressing climate change with members, partners, and other municipalities. The event focused on two key issues for European cities: resource-wise cities and citizens’ assemblies. A special session was organised to address specific challenges faced by members, encouraging collaborative problem-solving.

The session on resource-wise cities explored how better resource utilisation can improve public services and overall well-being. Four cities—Heidelberg, Lyon, Riga, and Vitoria-Gasteiz—shared initiatives on efficient use of water, energy, land, and materials, including robust public transport policies, car usage limitations, energy-saving efforts, sufficiency plans, and green belts to limit urban sprawl.
