Lisbon has launched a pilot project to reduce disposable cups in busy areas like Bairro Alto. The initiative, a partnership between the City Council, the association of hospitality, restaurants and similar establishments of Portugal (AHRESP) and a recycling company, includes installing 17 Reverse Vending machines, allowing users to return reusable cups and reclaim their deposit. This system aims to combat waste and urban pollution by promoting a closed-loop reuse cycle and supporting the circular economy. Collaboration between the municipality, businesses, and consumers is key to the project's success, which could expand to other areas.
