Government of Navarra | 18 100 tonnes of glass packaging is collected annually

According to 2023 data analysed by the Environmental Department of the Government of Navarra and the environmental management public company GAN-NIK, Navarra collects 18 100 tonnes of glass containers annually, equating to 27 kilograms or 92 containers per inhabitant, surpassing the national average by 36%.

The majority (93%) of glass is gathered from 5 825 street containers, with a container-to-resident ratio 60% higher than the national average, while 7% is collected directly from businesses in Pamplona's old town. However, 24% of generated glass containers are incorrectly disposed of, hindering recycling efforts and complicating waste management. To raise awareness about proper disposal, the public company GAN-NIK launched the campaign "Recycling Glass Does Much More ", highlighting the environmental benefits of glass recycling.
