EMULSA | Modification of the door-to-door cardboard collection service to improve support for businesses 

The Gijón Environment Department, involving EMULSA, will modify the door-to-door cardboard collection service to improve support for businesses. The city's Environmental and Sustainability Councillor, met with the Union of Merchants to discuss the draft of the Gijón Municipal Zero Waste Plan. Proposed changes include enhancing the door-to-door service, potentially expanding routes or offering Saturday collections. Alongside these changes, an information and awareness campaign will be launched for businesses, including a waste management guide. While the service currently collects over 400 000 kg of cardboard annually from more than 1 500 businesses, there is still room for improvement. The program, established in 2004, aims to reduce street container overcrowding and increase cardboard recycling.
