Zero Waste Scotland

Zero Waste Scotland is making funding available to cover the capital costs for producing materials based on its new litter prevention communications toolkit. Recent research from Zero Waste Scotland suggests that littering behaviour is affected by a number of factors including location, amenity, time of day, social situation, audience and perception of individual litter types. A series of context-specific communication materials have therefore been developed, based on available evidence and consumer testing, that will resonate with the relevant target audiences in different contexts to encourage behaviour change. The different contexts include beaches, town centres, residential areas, transport, parks and gardens, schools, and sporting facilities.

A brochure is available showing the range of communication materials and messages developed for each context, with options and suggestions to tailor communication interventions to the issues in your area and the target audience(s). It is important to note that, as the materials and messages have been created to have the maximum impact on litter prevention based on specific contexts and audiences, there is no overarching branding or style in use. This is intended to give flexibility in the use and application of the context-specific materials. This grant scheme is intended to facilitate the quick uptake and dissemination of these messages and materials throughout the country by providing funding for production of communications collateral. The materials and an accompanying toolkit are intended for longer term use and will be free to access online by all. Please note access will not be restricted to only those eligible for this funding programme, those that apply or those that are successful in their application.
