Only 1% of all textile waste in the Netherlands is recycled into new raw material for the textile industry. The new Circular Textile Lab, involving ACR+ member Clean Tech Regio, may change this. The lab is the first knowledge and innovation center in the Netherlands that recycles almost all parts of textile waste and contributes to the Dutch ambition to make half of all textiles more sustainable by 2030.

In the Netherlands, inhabitants recycle 33% of the 136 million kilos of textile waste collected on an annual basis. Only 1% of this is recycled for the clothing industry. The rest is often of low quality and is use as filling material for car seats, mattresses and furniture.
