Throughout 2017, ACR+ member EMULSA has developed in Gijón the campaign “Gijón, stop colillas” (Gijón, stop cigarette butts) which includes three actions to raise public awareness about the problem of cigarette butts thrown to the ground, sand or green areas. The third and last action took place on 13 October 2017 in the streets of the Route of the Wines of Gijón. On that day, two actors and an environmental informant drew the attention of the users of terraces and bars of the zone by talking to them, handing in portable ashtrays and informing about the impact of the butts that are thrown to the ground and how it can be avoided with a simple gesture. In addition, six minisculptures in the shape of a cigarette butt have been placed, with messages alluding to the impact of butts on the urban environment.

Before that, in September, a six day information campaign was organised on the beaches of the city, during which smokers were also offered portable ashtrays, and a street action took place over a week-end in the Gardens of El Náutico including an exhibition and a theatre play about the impact on the marine environment of cigarette butts in particular and waste in general.
