Sofia Municipality | Distribution of composters as part of the ‘Compost at Home’ initiative

Sofia Municipality is distributing 2 000 composters to households across the city as part of its "Compost at Home" initiative. These composters are being provided to households that have previously expressed interest, bringing the total number of composters distributed to over 14 000. The composters have a capacity of up to 740 liters and are easy to assemble and use. They significantly improve soil fertility, help retain nutrients and moisture, reduce plant diseases, and increase yields, while also saving households money on expensive synthetic fertilizers.

In addition to benefiting the soil, composting household green and organic waste also helps protect the environment by reducing waste volume and saving on collection, transportation, and disposal costs. It lowers greenhouse gas emissions from decomposing organic waste in landfills and reduces the use of synthetic fertilizers, which can harm biodiversity.
