Paris | The 20 km race embraces reusables

15 October 2024 Members' News

On 13 October, the 20 km race of Paris marked a significant event as it was the first major race in Paris to comply with the ban on single-use plastics in France. Organisers adapted to this new norm by eliminating plastic bottles and cups. Instead, runners were encouraged to bring their own containers, such as foldable cups or lightweight hydration packs. To facilitate this transition, the race provided 150 000 reusable cups for runners. Water stations featured two areas: one for filling personal containers and another where volunteers filled reusable cups for runners to grab on the go. The number of volunteers also increased to ensure smooth operations.
