Every autumn, the Department of Cleaning in the city of Paris collects 4 500 tonnes of dead leaves using blowers, leaf vacuums, street vacuums, suction boxes and, of course, brooms. Since 2020, some of these leaves have found a new purpose: composting at the recycling centre of the Metropolitan Agency for Domestic Waste Treatment. Through the “Feuilles sur Seine” (Leaves on the Seine) operation, leaves are collected at the Gennevilliers port (Hauts-de-Seine) after being transported by river. This year, a second collection point will be activated at the Point du Jour port. In 2023, 850 tonnes of dead leaves were transferred from the Bercy dock barge to the Gennevilliers recycling center.
