North London Waste Authority has launched its first electrical repair voucher scheme in three London boroughs (Hackney, Haringey, and Waltham Forest) offering residents 50% off professional repairs for items like phones and vacuum cleaners. The initiative aims to make repair more accessible and promote a circular economy. Vouchers, redeemable via QR code at participating repair shops, are expected to be in high demand each month. Supporters of the scheme highlight its potential to reduce waste, support local repair businesses, and create skilled jobs. In 2023 alone, Londoners discarded GBP 1.9 billion (EUR 2.2 billion) worth of repairable electronics, contributing significantly to carbon emissions.
