Two large waste prevention projects will each receive up to GBP 100 000 (EUR 118 094) from the North London Waste Authority's revamped Community Fund. Expressions of interest are now open for the second phase of this year's fund. Previously, 14 groups received grants of up to GBP 15 000 (EUR 17 714) for waste prevention in seven north London boroughs. With food making up a third of all residual waste collected in north London and waste electrical and electronic equipment containing precious metals that are being depleted at an alarming rate, the new projects must focus on these types of waste. These projects will run for two years, with an emphasis on behavior change or engaging communities not currently involved in eco-friendly practices. The NLWA encourages collaboration between national organizations and local groups.
