Starting from 1 December 2016 Wallonia bans the use of plastic shopper regardless the type of trade (food or non-food) and the place of sale (small shops, supermarkets, markets ...).

The ban applies both to sellers and customers using the bags. The shops are allowed to sell their stock of personalized bags purchased before 9 July 2016 until 1 December 2017.

Other types of bags, such as plastic bags used to pack fruit, vegetables or wet goods, should also be banned. Modalities and alternatives will be specified  following the outcomes of an on-going consultation with the trade sector.
