More than a year after implementing waste collection reforms and mandatory food waste sorting in Brussels, Bruxelles-Propreté continues to see a significant increase in biowaste tonnage (over 18 000 tonnes in 2023 compared to 10 000 in 2022). 

  

To improve public services and operational processes, while reducing its carbon footprint, the agency has optimised its food waste and garden waste collection routes. Starting 15 July, most Brussels residents have seen the joint collection of garden and food waste in 11 municipalities, a practice already in place in areas with low garden waste production. The aim of these changes is to ensure that trucks achieve the best possible occupancy rates while covering the fewest kilometres per tonne collected.
