From January to July 2024, urban waste collection in Lisbon rose by 3.9% compared to the same period in 2023, totalling 186 000 tonnes, a 7 000 tonnes increase.  

In the first half of the year, Lisbon's Urban Hygiene teams collected over 3 000 tonnes of bulky waste across around 40 000 actions. Garden waste increased by 50%, adding 878 tonnes, while used cooking oils grew by 37.8%, with an additional 0.7 tonnes. Packaging waste rose by 7%, with an extra 620 tonnes collected. Organic waste increased by 4.2%, totalling 576 tonnes, and paper collection saw a 1.7% rise, or 207 tonnes more. This effort underscores the importance of Lisbon residents' cooperation in keeping the city clean and organised.
