In response to the surge in disposable vape waste and its environmental impact, the North London Waste Authority (NLWA) has introduced dedicated containers at its reuse and recycling centres. Single-use vapes are difficult and costly to recycle due to their complex material composition. The new bins will enable over two million north Londoners to recycle their vapes sustainably, preserving valuable materials. The use of disposable vapes in the UK has escalated, with five million discarded weekly, up from 1.3 million in 2022. The lithium batteries in these vapes could power 5,000 electric vehicles annually.
