Last July ACR+ member The Hague has placed sensors in all residual waste containers in Scheveningen. The sensor sees when a container is nearly full and informs Hague Environmental Services (HMS), which knows exactly which containers it needs to empty. Instead of fixed collection routes on fixed days, HMS now only drives when necessary. Containers that fill up quickly are emptied more often. Containers that fill up less quickly are emptied less often. This prevents full containers as much as possible and HMS no longer needs to make unnecessary trips with the refuse lorry.
