Are you ready to hoop through a new project with us? The HOOP (Hubs of circular cities bOOsting Platform to foster investments for the valorisation of urban biowaste and wastewater) project received a green light from Horizon 2020 to work on pilot circular bio-based cities and the sustainable production of bio-products from urban biowaste and wastewater.

Continuing the work of three previous Horizon 2020 projects (VALUEWASTE, SCALIBUR, and WaystUP!), HOOP aims at developing Project Development Assistance (PDA) structures to provide technical, economic, feasibility, legal and business support for eight so-called lighthouse cities (including Porto, through ACR+ member LIPOR) to valorise urban biowaste and wastewater into innovative bio-based products.

The implementation of a network of “follower cities” is included in the project’s work plan, under the responsibility of ACR+. This network will be invited to follow the project’s development and get in touch with the partners, and possibly to adopt the biowaste and wastewater valorisation processes, strategies and measures based on the results of the PDA in the lighthouse cities. The follower cities will be involved in replicability actions through the Urban Biowaste Clubs in the lighthouse cities, visits to ongoing pilots, learning workshops and joint events, etc., to fully exploit the lessons learnt in the lighthouse cities.

A first call to interested cities has already been launched during the proposal phase. With the project now becoming a reality, additional follower cities will be welcomed! A call for interest will be launched soon after the project’s starts but you can already share your interest to be closely involved in HOOP with Jean-Benoit Bel (This email address is being protected from spambots.
