The Marine Resources Unit of the Directorate General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission organised a workshop in Brussels on 12 March 2019 to analyse and propose a way forward in addressing the health of our seas and oceans and contain plastics pollution.

This workshop was a first attempt to identify a portfolio of research, innovation and outreach actions that together can help achieve a healthy, plastic-free Mediterranean Sea and deliver on the targets of the Bioeconomy Strategy, with measurable goals within a set timeframe. The experts participating in the working groups, representing Horizon 2020 and Interreg MED projects, research institutions and the European Commission, explored pathways, existing knowledge, expertise and resources for this pilot.

The ACR+ team actively participated in the discussion, presenting some of the ongoing activities concerning the INTERREG MED BLUEISLANDS project and the EPR club initiative.
