Aalborg | Expansion of natural stone collection for biodiversity enhancement

22 October 2024 Members' News

Since April 2024, residents of Aalborg Municipality have been able to dispose of their surplus natural stones at selected recycling centres. These stones are used to create stone reefs in Limfjord to boost biodiversity. Due to the project's success, the initiative is expanding to all recycling centers in Aalborg and now includes Jammerbugt Municipality as well. The project, which has collected around 700 tonnes of stones since 2023, is part of the national "Coastal Helper" project. The stone reefs provide habitats for marine life and improve oxygen levels in the fjord, contributing to a healthier marine environment.
