Reloop joined the drinks industry and environmental charities to call on the UK Prime Minister to keep his party’s manifesto promise of including glass bottles in the UK’s deposit return system. The call emphasises that to achieve Net Zero targets, drinks manufacturers and retailers must minimise the carbon footprint of their packaging, with the most effective method being the implementation of a deposit return scheme. Furthermore, the public's willingness to contribute to environmental efforts aligns with the need for a deposit return system, which offers high-quality recycling crucial for progressing towards a circular economy for drinks packaging. The absence of an efficient waste collection system for drinks containers in the UK is seen as detrimental to the environment, and the introduction of a deposit return scheme is projected to reduce littering of these items by 85%, according to gathered signatures.
