From 16 to 20 September, law enforcement carried out over 300 actions across Wallonia to combat environmental offenses. The IV Clean-up Marathon was organised by the Wallonie Public Service’s Environmental Police and Controls Department, in collaboration with 124 municipalities and their police forces. The goal was to intensify waste abandonment enforcement while raising public awareness, with initiatives such as police patrols, distribution of pocket ashtrays, and school campaigns. Over five days, local authorities enforced stricter controls, issuing fines when necessary. The 2024 edition saw five times more participants than in 2021, reflecting the growing impact of the initiative, with 128 actors conducting 338 actions.
