Showcasing football’s commitment to sustainability
The Football Association of Wales (FAW) hosted the "Football and a Sustainable Future" event on 14 October at Cardiff City Stadium. Attended by over 50 participants, it demonstrated FAW’s commitment to environmental sustainability within the football community. Taking place during the Erasmus Days campaign, the event underscored the role of football as a global platform to raise environmental awareness and inspire climate action.
Highlights included an introduction to the ACCESS project and its focus on circularity and sustainable practices in sports. UEFA’s Sustainability Strategy, Strength Through Unity, was also presented, showcasing its alignment with the Paris Agreement and European Green Deal. The event concluded with an inspiring case study from Clarbeston Road AFC, detailing grassroots efforts like solar panel installation and wildflower planting, showing how football clubs can champion environmental sustainability.
