ACR+ contributes to Brussels Environment’s workshop on Single Use Plastic prevention

ACR+ joined a workshop organised by Brussels Environment on 13 March that brought together representatives from municipalities, event organisers, and venues to exchange experiences and address challenges linked to the prevention of Single Use Plastics (SUP) in the Brussels Capital Region. Part of the BRUDALEX 2.0 process — the region’s revision of its waste management framework — the workshop aimed to create synergies between municipalities, highlight good practices, and identify common obstacles to the effective implementation of regional obligations. During the session, ACR+ presented the case of reusable cups and separate waste collection at the Belgian National Stadium.

Participants engaged in group discussions and participative exercises, which underlined several persistent barriers, such as unclear distribution of responsibilities between local authorities and event organisers, social acceptance of reusable alternatives, and logistical issues like hygiene, storage, and costs. At the same time, successful actions, such as communication campaigns, behavioural assessments, and better management of food and beverage offerings, were recognised as key enablers. The need for locally available reusable packaging solutions was also highlighted as a gap.
