Since autumn 2021, Greater Pamplona has been implementing a new container opening system in its territory to increase the collection of organic matter. The goal is to achieve at least 70% separate collection by 2027, as specified by the Navarre Waste Law aimed at combating climate change. The latest results from 2024 in Iturrama show that organic matter collection in the neighborhood has increased from 15% before the new system was implemented to the current 42%. These results have been possible because a high percentage of households and establishments in the neighborhood are properly using the containers for residual waste and organic matter. Across the entire region, as a result of the new system implementation, the amount deposited in landfills decreased by 5.19% over the past year.
