Aalborg Municipality is currently testing the concept of a box that enables citizens to dispose of hazardous waste, such as small electronics, used batteries and light bulbs, and to pick up packages from various transport companies all in one convenient location. Previously, residents in single-family homes and some apartment buildings had to travel to recycling centers to dispose of hazardous waste. This trial aims to promote both waste sorting and efficient logistics. By consolidating multiple functions in one box, the use of physical space and infrastructure is optimised.

Initially, the sorting solution is being tested with 32 boxes, primarily placed in Aalborg's city center and other areas with many apartment buildings—typically near the buried containers residents already use for other types of waste. In the future, the sorting solution could be expanded with an additional 20 boxes.
