ACR+ member Paris is hosting the inaugural International Forum to End Plastic Pollution in Cities on 26 May. Organised by the UrbanShift program, funded by the Global Environment Facility and run by the United Nations Environment Programme, the forum aims to address the urgent need for solutions to combat plastic pollution. It will bring together mayors, city leaders, scientists, NGOs, and intergovernmental organisations dedicated to minimise the impact of plastics on the planet.

According to the organisers, the problem of plastic pollution is particularly acute in urban areas, where high population density and the concentration of economic activity generate significant amounts of consumption and waste. Around 75% of total plastic waste generation comes from municipal solid waste streams. Much of it ends up in landfills, waterways and the ocean, and contributes significantly to climate change.
