Metrop Region Amsterdam small

Major efforts around sustainability in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (MRA) are bearing fruit, but more results need to be achieved in the short term, according to the MRA's "State of Sustainability" report.

The report shows how the MRA is moving towards a sustainable metropolitan region. Looking at CO2 emissions, it shows that these emissions have been falling steadily in recent years and that in the MRA there is even a decoupling of economic growth and CO2 emissions. However, a drastic acceleration is needed to meet national climate targets. Progress is also being made in other areas, such as residual waste streams. But here, too, this progress has not yet resulted in the national targets being met or in sight of being met. The report further shows an increasingly strong connection between sustainability and other MRA themes.
