After adopting selective collection circuits for green waste (waste coming from gardening, such as grass, branches, leaves and flowers) at citizens' doors, the municipal company Porto Ambiente, in close cooperation with ACR+ member LIPOR, has extended the initiative to entities that produce a larger amount, by placing 62 containers in 27 strategic locations throughout the city. The new phase of the initiative aims this time at providing institutions, educational establishments, associations, buildings and urbanisations in the municipality with the necessary conditions for the correct disposal and collection of green waste, by placing specific 1,000-litre containers.

Green waste represents 13% of the mixed-waste produced annually in Porto, which translates into about 16,000 tonnes per year of green waste that is not properly treated.
