The results of the selective collection of waste in ACR+ member Area Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) for 2019 are again showing an improvement in the figures, following a stagnation of almost a decade which had been reversed in 2018. The increase in the selective collection of the organic fraction and paper and cardboard is key in this tendency.

Thanks to the change in the model of collection of certain municipalities, it is expected that the metropolitan average of the selective collection will be above 36%. The amount of collected waste that will have been separated correctly will exceed 550,000 tonnes in 2019, 2% more than the previous year.

The AMB estimates that meeting European targets would now reduce by EUR 15 million the current annual EUR cost of 140 million. Otherwise, the cost of treatment could increase by EUR 45 million from now until 2025.
