Since May 2014, ACR+ member EMULSA has been collaborating with Caritas-Koopera Astur for the collection of used clothing in the city of Gijón, with the aim of reusing or recycling them. Originally, 55 containers, with a capacity of 2,500 litres were installed. But this number had to be increased and currently a total of 68 containers are installed in Gijón, 64 of them on public roads and 4 in the recycling points of the city.

In June 2018, 3,411,697 kilograms of used clothing had been collected in the containers, of which 421,599 kilograms were collected in the first semester of 2018. An increase of 2% compared to the same period of the previous year is noted.

All types of clothing, footwear and accessories are collected. The items of good quality are used for re-use (sale or donation) while the others are recycled, as manufacture fillings or cleaning rags. A social economy company was created for the recovery of textile waste, creating 15 jobs.
