Belfast City Council is expanding kerbside glass recycling to 23 000 more households in east and west Belfast starting 10 February. This is the first phase of a three-year plan to improve recycling for 70 000 homes without glass collection. Residents will receive a 44-litre box for fortnightly collections, with distribution continuing until March 2025. Funded partly by the UK Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, the programme will expand further in 2025/26 and 2026/27, pending approval. The initiative aims to boost recycling rates and support the circular economy. Residents not yet included can still recycle glass at household recycling centres or bottle banks.
