The 14th edition of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) was closed with the annual Awards Ceremony, which has been held in Dublin on 1 June. The jury has announced one winner per category (public administration, business/industry, NGO/association, educational establishment and citizens) revealing 5 outstanding actions promoting waste prevention in Europe: a collection of carnival costumes to promote second-hand; an initiative to create unique theatre relics from theatre textile leftovers; a multigenerational festival to encourage people to fall back in love with their clothes and let them last longer; a school that created acoustic panels using old towels; and a German Repair café that managed to involve associations, citizens and local public authorities in the promotion of circular textiles. The European Special Prize was shared among three cities (Barcelona, Palma and Toulouse) that organised a simultaneous demonstration on public spaces to raise awareness about clothing overproduction. Finally, the audience participated in a live voting to select an additional inspiring action, which involved kids of a school in Asturias that built a sea on their classroom’s wall hanging fish made from textile waste and committed to eliminate plastic from their snacks. The EWWR is already getting ready for this 15th edition that will focus on Packaging, from 18 to 26 November 2023. The registrations will open in September.
