The 2022 thematic focus of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR), the biggest campaign to raise awareness about waste prevention in Europe, will be on textiles. In the coming months, factsheets, articles, guidelines and other materials on the thematic focus will be published to continue fighting for a world with less waste.

Textiles are the fourth highest-pressure category for the use of primary raw materials and water, after food, housing and transport, and fifth for GHG emissions. It is estimated that less than 1% of all textiles worldwide are recycled into new textiles. The European Commission proposes a comprehensive EU strategy for textiles to respond to these challenges. Among others, one of the measures that will be implemented is to boost textile sorting, re-use and recycling.
