On 10 November 2017, the BLUEISLANDS project has published its 2nd Newsletter overviewing project's achievements over the 1st year of implementation.

The main project focus at the moment is conducting surveys and sampling collection across all partner areas, and through the analysis of collected items the aim is to define waste seasonal variation in measurable and comparable quantities and quality. The Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of the Republic of Cyprus, which is the Lead Partner of the project is implementing these activities in Cyprus at the national level. Notably, collecting micro plastic and sand samples; investigating coastal seawater quality through short-term macroalgae deployments; representing the project internationally, during events and open days. This first study phase focuses on measuring the correlation of tourism and waste generation quantification and analysis.

The main project developments are overviewed in a more detailed way in the 2nd Newsletter: http://mailchi.mp.
