ACR+ contributes to EU public consultation on Water Resilience and Efficiency

ACR+ has submitted its response to the European Commission’s public consultation on the Water Resilience and Water Efficiency First initiatives, highlighting the crucial role of local and regional authorities in managing water resources and calling for a robust governance framework. In its contribution, ACR+ underlined the importance of safeguarding ecosystems that support the water cycle, aligning River Basin Management Plans with EU restoration priorities, and ensuring clear roles and responsibilities between different levels of government. The response also advocates for recognising water as a common good, ensuring equitable access for citizens, and preventing speculative practices that could threaten future water security.

Through its position, ACR+ welcomed the Commission’s efforts to draft a Water Resilience Strategy that addresses the needs of people, ecosystems, and the economy, while urging for measures that promote water conservation, circularity, and risk prevention.
