#LIFEBIOBEST webinar: Regulatory and technical perspectives – driving progress in bio-waste treatment

From 27 May 2024 10:30 until 27 May 2024 12:00
At Online
Categories: Projects' events

The efficient treatment of bio-waste holds significant promise in closing the gap in the biological cycle while delivering useful organic resources and advancing towards renewable energy sources. Compost and digestate utilisation present great opportunities for environmental sustainability, soil health, and carbon capture, supporting the transition towards climate neutrality.

However, the complexity of bio-waste management can pose challenges for local authorities, especially those in the early stages, particularly in ensuring the viability and quality of treatment processes.

Join this webinar as we will uncover practical insights for advancing bio-waste treatment practices. We’ll delve into the technical aspects (from low-tech composting towards complex systems) and best regulatory perspectives aimed at enhancing bio-waste treatment technologies in various regional and municipal settings.  More specifically, we will look in detail at:

  • The various possible technological approaches to optimised treatment of bio-waste;
  • Quality assurance schemes for compost and digestate production;
  • Leveraging regulatory tools for economic viability and product quality of biowaste treatment.

Provisional agenda

  • Introduction to LIFE BIOBEST guidelines for promoting quality compost and digestate.

Speaker: Steffen Walk, Scientific Officer at European Compost Network (ECN).

  • Evolving bio-waste treatment in Italy: A journey of regulatory, political, and technological advancement.

Speaker: Alberto Confalonieri, Chair of Technical Committee at Consorzio Italiano Compostatori (CIC).
