Virtual meeting on illegal landfills and fly-tipping
In the framework of the initative CleanLandNet, ACR+ and the European Space Agency (ESA) organised a one-hour virtual meeting for ACR+ members on 15 June at 10:00 CET.
Combining the experience of previously adopted law enforcement services for marine and land monitoring and new capabilities offered by service providers, ESA is addressing the issue of illegal landfills and fly-tipping. The meeting provided information on how regional and national authorities are increasingly using these innovative services, presenting the capabilities of satellite data, and providing presentations from two service providers.
Satellite remote sensing can provide an efficient tool to monitor dumping sites from space since it can observe land surface conditions in quite extensive area regularly and quickly.
