Voor biomassa lijkt in een klimaatneutrale, circulaire economie een belangrijke rol weggelegd. Tegelijkertijd is er veel maatschappelijke discussie over de wenselijkheid van (grootschalige) productie en het gebruik van verschillende soorten biomassa voor energie, chemie en materiaaltoepassingen. Hoeveel duurzame biomassa in de toekomst beschikbaar is en welke toepassingsmogelijkheden verantwoord zijn, hangt vervolgens sterk af van het perspectief dat men hanteert.

Biomass appears to play an important role in a climate-neutral, circular economy. At the same time, there is much public debate about the desirability of (large-scale) production and the use of different types of biomass for energy, chemistry and material applications. How much sustainable biomass will be available in the future and which application options are justified will then depend strongly on the perspective that is used.
