Synthesizing soil needs and drivers of change across Europe and land use types
Are you seeking resources to improve soil health and combat land degradation? Check out the PREPSOIL Knowledge Hub, an online library available in multiple languages, offering best practices, policy recommendations, experiments, videos, and publications on soil health in Europe. The latest publication is "Synthesizing soil needs and drivers of change across Europe and land use types".
The Soil Needs Assessment (SNA) uses an interdisciplinary and participatory approach, integrating natural science knowledge with social science methods. It combines expert insights and literature reviews with stakeholder perspectives to raise awareness about soil importance. The research follows the Driver-Pressure-State-Impact-Response (DPSIR) framework to examine human-environment interactions, addressing drivers affecting land use and soil management, and their impacts on soil health and ecosystem services. Twenty representative regions across Europe were selected to reflect the diversity of land use types and soil conditions, including agriculture, forestry, urban areas, and mixed uses.
