Key instruments for local authorities to improve textile circularity

A new report by ACR+ offers local and regional authorities a comprehensive overview of tools and strategies to enhance the circularity of textile materials, with a particular focus on citizen engagement. Published under the CISUTAC project, the document highlights diverse approaches across Europe to tackle textile waste and foster sustainable practices. Notably, only a few EU Member States, such as France, Hungary, and the Netherlands, have implemented mandatory Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems for managing used textiles, underscoring the need for broader adoption of effective measures.

The report draws from best practices across Europe, providing actionable recommendations for improving collection systems and driving citizen participation. By leveraging these insights, local governments can play a pivotal role in promoting textile reuse and recycling, contributing to a circular economy. The publication aims to support stakeholders in implementing practical solutions to address challenges in textile waste management while aligning with EU sustainability goals.
