Insights and benefits from brokering innovation

The closing event for the BRINC project highlighted key lessons and benefits in innovation procurement for circular solutions gained by public organisations involved in the project. BRINC employed the Innobroker (Innovation procurement brokerage) method to foster stronger connections between public buyers and innovative companies. This approach facilitated communication, pre-tender market dialogues, and needs assessment, assisting public authorities in selecting suitable suppliers and developing functional procurement strategies. By offering targeted support, BRINC empowered municipalities to address specific innovation requirements, showcasing how procurement can be both strategic and beneficial for advancing circular economy objectives. 

Participants also gained access to an open-source toolkit and six essential tips for enhancing innovation procurement. These include early planning across the procurement process, fostering an inclusive approach, and encouraging an innovation-driven mindset within organisations. Additionally, collaborating within networks, thinking strategically over the long term, and leveraging intermediary support were highlighted as ways to optimise procurement success. With these insights, public authorities are better equipped to navigate the complexities of procuring sustainable and innovative solutions for their communities.
