Scotland has published its Circular Economy and Waste Route Map to 2030, outlining a bold plan to transition to a circular economy by addressing resource use and waste. Zero Waste Scotland played a pivotal role by providing research and collaborating with stakeholders to shape effective interventions.

The Circular Economy and Waste Route Map sets the strategic direction for Scotland's circular economy up to 2030, focusing on Responsible Production, Responsible Consumption, and Maximising Value from Waste and Energy. It outlines priority actions to accelerate sustainable resource use, address progress and shortcomings in waste reduction, and decarbonise the waste sector. The Route Map identifies 11 priority actions designed to drive system-wide transformation through coordinated and sequenced measures targeting specific materials. It highlights the importance of balancing ambition with fiscal realities, ensuring deliverability and support for businesses, local governments, and communities. Zero Waste Scotland, now officially Scotland’s circular economy public body, continues to drive initiatives that align with the Route Map.
